Republic day is a national festival of India which is celebrated every year on 26th January. On this day in 1950, the Constitution of India enacted after the removal of the Government of India Act 1935.

So this is the reason that the Republic Day of India is celebrated every year on 26th January and since this day is associated with nationalism and not connected with any religion, caste or community, every person in the country celebrates it as a national festival.

This event marks proud founding of the republic tradition of one of the largest democracies in the world. The significance of the day honors the date in which the country’s constituent assembly adopted the constitution specially framed for the nation.

History of Republic Day in India

The resolution was passed and announced In December 1929 in which the British government would not give the position of autonomous authority (Dominion) to India by January 26, 1930, and then India would declare itself completely independent.

When the British Government did nothing till January 26, 1930, then Congress announced that the decision of India’s complete independence on that day and started its active movement.

The actual day of Independence accepted as the Independence Day of India on 15th August. After the liberation of India, the Constituent Assembly announced, and it started its work from 9 December 1947.

Members of the Constituent Assembly elected by the members of the assemblies of the states of India. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, etc. were the key members of this assembly.

There were 22 committees in the constitution writing, in which the draft committee was the main committee, and the work of this committee was to write the overall constitution.

The director of the draft committee was Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The draft committee and Dr. Ambedkar built the Indian Constitution in 2 years, 11 months, 18 days and The Constitution of India handed over to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.

Therefore, the 26th November day is celebrated every year in India as Constitution Day. The Constituent Assembly held 114 days of meetings during the constitution. At its meetings, the press media and the public had the freedom to take part.

After several reforms and changes, 308 members of the Assembly signed two handwritten copies of the constitution on 24 January 1950.

Two days later, on January 26, the Constitution was implemented throughout the country and to maintain the importance of January 26; the Constitution approved by the Constituent Assembly on the same day was recognized as the Republic Day of India.

Celebration of Republic Day in India

Flag Hoisting – On January 26, the Republic Day celebrations hoist to the flag of the Indian National Flag (Tiranga), and after this, the national anthem sings in a collective form.

When the President hoists the flag, his special cavalry bodyguards are present there and stand toward caution and salute the Tiranga. After which the national anthem begins. During the end of the national anthem, i.e., for 52 seconds, 21 guns salute is given.
