Speech on World Aids Day (800 Words)

Respected Principal, teachers, all guests and my colleagues, today I want to say something about Aids day which we are celebrating today. Nowadays we all know about Aids regularly we hear about its effect and precautions.

Sir, World AIDS Day is celebrated every year all over the world on 1 December to make people aware of AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome).  The day is celebrated by government organizations, NGOs, civil society and other health officials organizing AIDS-related speeches or discussions in public meetings.

The President of the United States of America made an official announcement for World AIDS Day in 1995, which was followed by other countries around the world. AIDS Day observation and celebration is now seen as the most recognized and important health day celebrations worldwide.

World AIDS Day provides important opportunities for health organizations to raise awareness among people, discuss possible access to treatment as well as preventive measures.

The objective of celebrating World AIDS Day every year is to support a member of its states well to create new and effective policies and programs, strengthen the health system and enhance the capacity of health sectors towards HIV/AIDS. Some principal objectives of World AIDS Day are:

  • Guidance of Member States to enhance prevention and control measures for HIV / AIDS globally.
  • Providing technical help to member countries for implementing prevention plans, maintenance and treatment for HIV / AIDS, testing, STI control and antiretroviral therapy.
  • Making people aware of antiretroviral drugs or other items that can help fight against HIV / AIDS.
  • Involve respected (religious/elite) groups in the campaign to achieve the most effective results.
  • To encourage more students from schools, universities and social organizations to contribute to competitions organized for AIDS.
  • Controlling the number of HIV / AIDS infected patients as well as encouraging religious groups to use condoms.

Sir, Now I am going to discuses about its cases. AIDS (Immune Deficiency Syndrome or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), which attacks the immune system of the human body. The serious disease was first time recognized in the year of 1981. It was first known as AIDS on 27 July 1982.

HIV infection is easily transmitted from one person to another if they have ever made direct contact through bodily fluids or blood mucous membranes. In earlier periods, people suffering from HIV / AIDS were subjected to a lot of social stigmas (stigma). According to estimates, it has been mentioned that 33 lakh people are infected with HIV and 2 lakh people die due to it every year.

HIV is a virus; the disease attacks the T-cells of the immune system and causes a disease known as AIDS. It is found in human body fluids such as blood of the infected person, se-men, vag-inal fluid, breast milk in direct contact with others such as blood transfusion, sexual relations, injection of contaminated needles spreading by applying. It can also spread from pregnant women to children during childbirth or through breastfeeding.

It took place near West-Central Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries. There is no cure, but we can reduce it through some treatments.

Symptoms and signs of HIV/AIDS

A person infected with HIV/AIDS has the signs and symptoms like:

  1. Fever
  2. Chills or cold
  3. Sore throat
  4. Sweating during the night
  5. Enlarged glands
  6. Weight loss
  7. Fatigue
  8. Weakness
  9. Joint pain
  10. Muscle pain
  11. Red spots

However, in many cases of this disease, the initial symptoms do not show up for many years during which the immune system is destroyed due to HIV, which is incurable. The infected or sick person never shows or feels any symptoms in this period and appears healthy.

But in the late stage of HIV infection (viruses weaken the immune system to fight against it), the person suffers from AIDS disease. In the last stage, the infected person starts seeing the following signs and symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Permanent fatigue
  • Fever (above 100 degrees F)
  • Night sweats
  • Diarrhea (persistent and chronic)
  • Dry cough
  • White spots on tongue and mouth
  • Glandular swelling
  • Weight loss
  • Shortness of breath
  • Grass tuberculosis (swelling of the lower esophagus lining)
  • Kaposi sarcoma, cancer of the cervix, lungs, rectum, liver, head, neck cancer and immune system (lymphoma).
  • Meningitis, encephalitis and peripheral neuropathy
  • Toxoplasmosis (brain infection)
  • Tuberculosis
  • Pneumonia

Some myths have spread in society about AIDS. AIDS is never spread through shaking hands, hugs, sneezing, touching unbreakable skin or using the same toilet.

Sir, I expressed my knowledge and shared with you so that we all may take necessary steps to prevent the Aids. On this Aids day today, we all should take a pledge to start a huge campaign to prevent this.

Awareness is there in society but the cases also increasing. A huge movement is required against this disease. Now I won’t close my speech. Thanks to listening to me and your time.
